Microstructure and mechanical properties of aluminium matrix boron carbide and carbon nanofiber reinforced hybrid composites

In this study, aluminium matrix boron carbide (B4C) and carbon nanofiber (CNF) reinforced hybrid composite was produced by powder metallurgy method their microstructure mechanical properties were investigated. The samples at 6 percentage volume ratios using hot pressing technique. Microstructure examination, hardness measurement, transverse rupture test, wear tests carried out in order to determine the of samples. Also three-point bending test performed strength (TRS). Wear based on ball disc method. examination revealed that reinforcing elements relatively homogeneously distributed matrix. addition, fracture brittle due notch effect agglomeration occurred with increasing amount CNF. As CNF increased, values increased but TRS decreased. Results indicate resistance. friction coefficient varied between 0.535 0.646. When examined together results, most suitable sample determined be Al-7%B4C-1%CNF
